Winter 1999-2000: a chalet website born in Savoie

Chalet-Montagne.com was created during the winter of 1999-2000, in Savoie. It was one of the very first French websites to put holidaymakers directly in touch with the owners of mountain rentals: no agency, no middleman — a precise listing, and an owner who answers in person.

2002: the Alpium company

Two years later, in 2002, Alpium was founded in Savoie to publish and develop the site. Registered with the Albertville Trade and Companies Register, it has stayed at the foot of the mountains it knows — and has never changed course: direct contact between holidaymakers and owners.

A quarter of a century of direct contact

Over twenty-five years, the big booking platforms imposed their high service fees and anonymous messaging. Chalet-Montagne.com kept doing the opposite: verified owners, listings run by the people who own the places, and holidaymakers who know exactly who they are writing to.

2026: Vacancium, every destination

Vacancium was created in 2026 by the same team, with a double ambition: to extend that proven know-how to every destination — the mountains first, then the sea, the countryside and the city — and to offer online booking with a minimal commission, at least three times lower than the big platforms'. The comfort of modern booking, without the hefty price tag.

What will not change

Direct contact with the owner remains the heart of the model: the person who answers you is the person who will welcome you. The commission will stay minimal — that is a principle, not a promotion. And the company behind the site has been the same since 2002, in Savoie.
